Onboarding a new employee
What is employee onboarding?
Employee onboarding, also known as integration, is the experience a company offers to welcome and validate the recruitment of any new employee.
With increased competition in the hiring marketplace, recruitment is becoming more delicate and complex and its cost is increasingly significant for the companies.
Onboarding is therefore the key moment when the relationship between the employee and the company is forged. Companies must therefore build a genuine plan to assimilate their new hires.
What are the objectives of the onboarding of a new employee?
Validating recruitment, ensuring product knowledge, building internal networks, immersing the employee in company values: many objectives can be established to define the onboarding plan.
The priority is to develop a sense of belonging for new employees.
How does onboarding work?
We design, create and deploy onboarding programmes for major retailers.
Onboarding generally takes place over one or more days, and can feature several modalities and locations of experience. A complete plan includes individual, collective and face-to-face sessions. In retail companies, these can take place in a dedicated training space, or directly on the sales floor.
During the face-to-face group meetings, the creation of bonds with other new hires, managers and regional directors is very importnat. Extra-professional recreational activities (cooking, sport, music, etc.) facilitate the exchange and enhance the experience.
Examples of onboarding
- Welcoming by the sponsors or top management
- Presenting the onboarding path or schedule
- Explaining the company’s organisation
- Immersing participants in the company’s culture and values
- Developing knowledge of products, offers and services
- Learning the professional gestures
- Applying the rituals and routine of their role
- Sharing experiences, growing, and being inspired and made to feel welcome
